Professor Boris Kashnikov on ICRC Senior Workshop on International Rules Governing Military Operations

Professor Boris Kashnikov, member of the board of directors of the European Society for Military ethics, has given a talk at 14th ICRC Senior Workshop on International Rules Governing Military Operations (SWIRMO), attended by some 250 senior military officers from around the world.

This year the event was virtual and held over four days, of which one day was spent looking at battlefield behavior and the integration of IHL/LOAC.

Professor Kashnikov was a panelist to discuss how Russian values, culture and norms can support the application of IHL/LOAC and how that is used in training to promote IHL/LOAC. The panel consisted of 3 other personnel and at this stage was joined by a Tanzanian Brigadier, a military imam of Bosnia-Herzegovina and a staff member from Sandhurst.

That day on battlefield behavior started at 09:00 (Geneva time) with a brief from resident expert, Dr. Fiona Terry talking about the ICRC methods of dissemination, integration and socialization of IHL.
